Credit price
A fuel price charged when paying by credit card or other non-cash method.
Why It Matters
Credit price is one of the comparison points for diesel pricing. Using the wrong reference price can overstate or understate a card discount.
How It Shows Up
- Credit price may be posted at the pump, shown in a fuel finder or used as the starting point for a discount.
- Cash, credit and network prices can differ at the same location.
- The comparison should use the price the truck would actually pay without the fuel card.
Example
If credit price is the reference point, the card price should be compared against the same location and payment method. Mixing a cash alternative with a credit-based discount can make savings look better than they are.
Common Mix-Up
A posted price is not always the final account price. Taxes, fees, discounts and statement adjustments can change the number used for reconciliation.
What to Check
- Ask whether card pricing starts from credit price or another network price.
- Compare the card price against the payment method the truck would otherwise use.
- Record the location and date because posted prices can change quickly.
Questions to Ask
- Is credit price the price used for this card program?
- Does the card receive cash, credit, retail or network pricing at this location?
- Where can drivers see the final price before authorizing fuel?
